What's going on?
New owners playing with their new toy, that's what. Paul and Garret sold their interests in the pd to Marty D'Mello and HD Fowler. Kicky-wicksy, for a lot of word-related websites.

fixed
It's about time for the bi-annual apology from your favorite pseudodictionary programmer. Our web host delivered some pretty substantial server upgrades, and our humble site bit the dust in the ensuing kerfuffle. It's all fixed up now.

Are we pseudofamous or what?
Looks as if some 7th grade English class had as a project today submitting words to the PseudoDictionary. In response to such a high honor, all 100 words added to the input queue today will be accepted &mdash just as they were input. That’s not to say they will remain in the pd as entered, but they will be visible at least for a while &mdash for grading. Good luck, kids. Some of you are going to need it.

Double-Tongued Word Wrester
DTWW is no longer as visually arresting as it once was, but the site otherwise just gets better and better. A delight for word lovers. Urban Dictionary: The Book will be out in a couple of weeks. Urban Dictionary's lexicon just gets bigger and bigger. Aaron Peckham must have a great deal more patience than we do, culling through perhaps 1,000,000 Urban Dictionary entries for the 2,000 or so in his compilation.

Well, I finally got around to fixing the damn site. I was busy moving from Toronto to Montreal, so I didn’t get around to it until now. Much apologies to those attempting to use the site. I’d rather not have left it this long.

super cool
10k words! woot for us! one cool thing i found yesterday while perusing our weblogs was a well known website using [pd].com's four-oh-find functionality to offer a linked definition to nut-graf. this validates why I wrote it in the first place .. in no way is it a 'cool site' mention - its a use of pseudodictionary.com as an in-line reference, and thats just too cool for school!

05-08-02 [ paul ]
10k freaking words!
hot damn! in just over a year we're now at 10,000 words. this wouldn't have been possible if not for: garret, hd, betsy, lillith, erle, steve, julie, eric, and nita for making this work. thank you.

poncy!
thanks to everyone that sent in definitions to poncy. as it's in a few real dictionaries, i won't add it to this one, but for those who are curious - it means an effeminate male...originating somewhere in the UK.

to be made an example out of
dorm food is both a great word, and a perfect submission. Why, you might ask? It is the perfect submission in terms of style, length, and clarity. The description is informative, and the example is clear, while the whole entry maintains a dark sardonic undertone. Whew! For all you submission-junkies out there, study this!

aaaargggg
ok, thanks to James, Noam, and wflaschka for pointing out that pseudodictionary.com was a little more open-source than it needed to be :) problem solved, even if we now look a little more cable-ten than we did 12 hours ago ... also, thanks to memepool for sating the linksluts in paul and I .. we got around 75000 page accesses in the span of 3 days. Also, if you're planning on sending us this kind of traffic in the future, a warning might be nice so we can make sure we have our shiznit in order :) update: more optimizations have been made, thus solving much of the load problems we were experiencing .. our hoster had to moved our database to a dedicated server, we were generating so much load :P

improved navigation
our visitors now have easy access to the search function other than through the main page by using the 'search' link in the top header. also, the glaring oversight of not having access to words that began with numbers and punctuation has been addressed in the form of two new links (etc, and 0-9) in the (lovingly named) alphabar.

4000th word
WE'VE HIT 4000 WORDS BABY!! that's just badass beyond belief.

*insert award ceremony speech here*

when i started this site back in jan or feb, i just wanted to have a place where my buddies and i could post funny slang we used. now this site has been on tv, radio, in mags and newspapers, and lots of big websites. i'm so happy at how readily people have helped out with the site and contributed all these words, because with you, the little people, this site wouldn't be more than a silly dictionary with 10 entries, which would hardly be a dictionary at all. i'd like steve for starting the programming of the site, garret for coding the new site, kara and hd and lillith and betsy for being awesome editors, and all of you that have submitted words and participated in our message boards. thank you!

*breaks into tears, cut to commercial*

For all you bloggers out there, this makes pseudodictionary.com linkful. try it out! now you can link words without even visiting pseudodictionary and finding out the specific linking code ...

yes, I'm alive, and active! you'll notice a new pager when you're browsing words. it allows you to go to any arbitrary page in a search result set. this feature was introduced thanks to a visitor request, so dont hesitate to send in your own feature requests .. anything we can do to help serve you better!

my friend sent me a link to a site that has a large list of slang and its present meaning...mostly business-related slang too, and most are pretty funny (even though most are entirely politically incorrect, hehe).

censorship debate
there's actually a good debate going on here about how PD doesn't allow drug or sex related slang on our site. it's worth checking out, and please make your two cents heard as well :)

we're so medically good
four out of five dentists recommend pseudodictionary as a proven method of reducing the buildup of boring words in your mouth.

06-22-01 [ garret ]
fark is cool
fark.com is a great site. User-submitted links with a deliberate counter-culture in-the-know savvy tone. A few submitters have posted their words’ approval on fark.com. Some of the comment threads on the site remind me of the word-play tennis from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, which is a good thing.

06-18-01 [ garret ]
garret likes you all
I think we are going to start thinking about a rating system here on pseudodictionary. Feel free to post your input in the (you-must-be-getting-sick-of-hearing-about-them) messageboards. Also, I’ve cleaned up some bugs around the site (no more blank words in randomizer) … if you still encounter deviant website behaviour, mail me.

word up, g
for some reason i’m listening to rap/hiphop today … but listening to the lyrics, i think only 2 or 3 words out of 10 are real words, the rest are words that belong here in PD, hehe.
